Operational BI Analyst

We're looking for a commercially minded Operational BI Analyst to join our Meter Asset Provider Operations team. This role is about more than producing reports; it's about understanding operational performance, interpreting business and contractual requirements, building trusted stakeholder relationships, and turning data into meaningful insight that drives action and improvement.

You'll become a trusted partner to operational stakeholders, helping them understand performance, identify risks and opportunities, and make better decisions through data.

About the Role

As an Operational BI Analyst, you'll support the management of operational performance across our Meter Asset Provider activities. You'll work closely with both internal and external stakeholders to understand reporting requirements, contractual obligations and business priorities, ensuring reporting accurately reflects performance and supports informed decision-making.

You'll be responsible for producing and enhancing reporting, but also for understanding the story behind the data. We'll look to you to challenge assumptions, investigate issues, identify root causes and help stakeholders focus on the right actions.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both the technical aspects of reporting and the business-facing side of analytics.

What You'll Be Doing

• Develop, maintain and enhance Power BI reports and dashboards that support operational and management decision-making.
• Produce accurate management information and performance reporting across Meter Asset Provider Operations.
• Support the monitoring of operational and contractual performance, ensuring reporting provides clear visibility of key obligations, risks and improvement opportunities.
• Work with stakeholders to understand reporting requests, identify the underlying business need and deliver meaningful solutions.
• Interpret performance measures, operational requirements and business commitments to ensure reporting accurately reflects performance.
• Analyse data to identify trends, risks, exceptions and opportunities for improvement.
• Investigate anomalies and performance issues, conducting root-cause analysis and supporting corrective actions.
• Validate incoming data and ensure appropriate controls are in place to maintain reporting accuracy and integrity.
• Develop and maintain SQL queries to support reporting, analysis and reconciliation activities.
• Build strong relationships with operational teams and become a trusted source of insight and reporting expertise.
• Work with both internal and external stakeholders to provide data, analysis and reporting that supports operational performance and decision-making.
• Automate reporting and validation processes to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to strengthen reporting, governance and operational performance.
• Support the responsible use of AI tools to improve reporting, analysis and development activities.

Essential Criteria

We're looking for someone who can combine strong analytical skills with commercial awareness and stakeholder engagement.

You will have:

• Experience developing and maintaining Power BI reports and dashboards.
• Strong SQL querying and analytical skills.
• Experience supporting operational, commercial or performance reporting.
• Experience working with large and complex datasets.
• Experience with data validation, reconciliations and data quality controls.
• Experience building strong relationships with stakeholders and becoming a trusted source of reporting and insight.
• Experience gathering, interpreting and challenging business requirements to ensure reporting addresses the underlying business need.
• Strong investigative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and recommend improvements.
• Experience measuring and reporting against KPIs, SLAs, service levels, contractual obligations or operational performance indicators.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A collaborative, inquisitive and commercially aware approach.

Desirable Criteria

While not essential, the following would be advantageous:

• Experience working within utilities, field operations, service delivery, outsourcing or other operationally focused environments.
• Knowledge of DAX and Power Query.
• Experience automating reporting or analytical processes.
• Experience using AI tools to improve reporting, analysis or business processes.
• Experience working with external partners, suppliers or customers to support performance reporting and governance.
• Experience driving reporting improvements, process optimisation or data governance initiatives.
